We went behind for the first time this season when Västerås came flying out the blocks in the second half with two early goals. We hadn’t yet faced this situation but I never doubted the players’ mentality to deal with it. We’ve barely talked about the importance of results, but focused on the training, attitude and the process. I think this allows them to be relaxed even when we are losing because in futsal any team can take a 2 or 3 goal lead as I mentioned in my pre-match interview (below).
We never panicked and I felt the belief in the players that we would get the win. Of course, we need to be better in defence and less sloppy in attack, especially against a team that has a lethal counter attack. Västerås Futsal Club are new to the SFL but have shown that they will be no pushover with their results so far, including an impressive win over champions, ÖSK.
All the goals and big chances are in the video above. We still missed a few good opportunities in the dying minutes which could have cost us and I hope we can improve our conversion rate in the coming games.
On Thursday, live on Eurosport, we play against Uddevalla, three-time champions before the pandemic and our fierce rivals. It will be an exciting game between the current top two.
