I’d been thinking about writing something profound but was probably just gonna let my #10YearChallenge do the talking until I received this on twitter on Monday.
Random one too – do you remember those handball sessions you put on at SRC after Ldn 2012? Those actually helped fuel my love of the sport since there was no local club – now 7 years later I’m playing in the English Prem with a 🏆 under my belt, so cheers for that Damo 🤝🤾🏼♀️

15 years ago I started a small futsal club at the University of Teesside that helped form Middlesbrough Futsal Club and despite having left there in 2013 it dominates my memories of futsal and life 7 years on. I have the best memories of my time there and have enjoyed looking through memory lane today to find pics and results and stuff…
Like most people, I wanted to share something I’ve done in the last decade (see my last post) and in doing so, Effy replied to my tweets…
I’d tried to start a regular handball session as part of Middlesbrough Futsal, because… why not?! It didn’t really work but I did it with my usual passion and ambition…
However, I put it down as a waste of time, a failure and tbh was never my main focus…
It just goes to show, nothing is ever a lost cause. Reading this message 8 years on has made the highlights of my decade. If I’ve managed to inspire just one person with a 5 week block of a low-turnout handball session that most people probably wouldn’t have tried in the first place, then imagine what you can do with something that actually works.
Try things, don’t let small things get in your way, fail again and again but remember it’s not a failure! Not when things like this can happen!
I often wonder why I have chosen this path and then something like this comes along to kick me back along it!
Sport has an amazing power to transform lives! Gonna be setting some hefty goals for the next decade! 😁😁
Thanks Effy and happy new year! Keep smashing it!
