It’s been a while since I wrote a blog. I used to share my thoughts regularly via various blog websites but over the last few years, I’ve stuck to short things on social media. I’m keen to share my experiences, training sessions and thoughts on various things in the futsal world so you will find my new blog here, hosted on The Futsal Shop.
Of course, I’ve been active on instagram, facebook and twitter and have a YouTube channel too and share regular videos of sessions there.
Involved in futsal since 2003
I’m Damon Shaw, I have been involved in futsal since 2003 when, along with some good friends, I ran a 5-a-side tournament, which led me to discover futsal and my life took me on a path that was guided by the indoor version of football. After this tournament, I set up Teesside University Futsal Club and the British University Futsal Championship (BUCS) before founding Middlesbrough Futsal Club and managing them in 7 seasons of the FA Futsal League and Teesside in 6 season of the BUCS Futsal championship, winning three of them. I then spent three years in Spain where I took my UEFA B and A and ending up coaching at Catgas Santa Coloma, where I learnt so much alongside a top coach in Edu Blanco.
Tranmere Rovers, Super League and The Futsal Shop
I am now manager of Tranmere Rovers and after one season in the FA Futsal League division 2, we will compete next season in the FA Futsal Super League. Of course, I also set up The Futsal Shop, which is a company dedicated to futsal and the growth of futsal in the UK. We’ll do this by selling trainers and equipment and keeping the money within the sport.
It’s a job I’ve always wanted
Tranmere Rovers is my full-time job. When I heard about the project to enter the FA Futsal League with a team backed by Mark Palios, former FA Chief Executive and then when I received the call to lead that team, it was a no-brainer for me. It represents 12 years of volunteering, learning, and lots of difficulties on the way, but I am now in a position at a club in England that I believe can become one of the top clubs, leading by example. It’s a job I’ve always wanted; to be in a position to develop a futsal club with the support of a club and good owners is a dream.
Give insight into my work on and off the court
My blog will share my experiences and knowledge gained in areas of coaching, club development and more as well as documenting my journey here on in. I’m keen to pass on skills and experiences I’ve learned over the years and give an insight into my work on and off the court to those who want to coach futsal, set up a club or simply get to know more about the sport. I’m still learning and it’s important you never stop.
